Hello Sam,

I am Simon and i contribute to "Sources" working group in Transiscope project.

Transistion Network has been selected to be integrated into Transiscope from among the sources that requested it.

It would be easier for me to have a French speaking interlocutor. Is that possible?

We have several points to see together but here are the 2 main ones:
- Does your data comply with the charter? https://transiscope.org/charte/
- how to get the data by API or another method?

We have a document that explains all this, but it is in French. I'll see if we can translate it.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tLMYRLEVOTG0epbCOAQCuJEEv9qNAReFGRCw66Uurg4/edit?usp=sharing

How can we progress to the integration?

Best regards,
Simon L

The documentation is translated.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/16Apev9gObOlDE9LCeXQaXqrVxKG3A0EbFirkpkNtHIA/edit#heading=h.oqtogdtf0kj0

Do you have any news on your end?

Best regards,

Hi Simon

Thanks so much for this, much appreciated. We're just in a process of
setting our strategic aims for the year, which is keeping me quite
busy on limited hours.

Could I connect back with you around the 20th of February?

Thanks

Sam

Hi Sam,

The meeting will take place on Thursday, April 23rd at 2pm.
Pierre should be here and Laetitia will be here according to her schedule. They speak better English than I do.
My english is bad and this mail is a deepl translation.

I remind you of the document that will facilitate your integration : https://docs.google.com/document/d/16Apev9gObOlDE9LCeXQaXqrVxKG3A0EbFirkpkNtHIA/edit#heading=h.6fgxs8tg8vl

From the informations you have given us :
1/ I need you explain to us how your data respects the charter for each point: https://transiscope.org/charter/

2/ I tried to retrieve the data by API https://transitioninitiative.org/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php. The data I get is quite poor.

    • "title": "Val de Cher en Transition"
  • }
  • The permalink would allow me to srap the page to get more details but it would be easier if you had a way to access the full data.

3/ We need to define in which categories your colletives will go.

Are you okay with the date and content of the meeting?

Hi All

>> I remind you of the document that will facilitate your integration : https://docs.google.com/document/d/16Apev9gObOlDE9LCeXQaXqrVxKG3A0EbFirkpkNtHIA/edit#heading=h.6fgxs8tg8vl

Let's start with 2, I'll see if we can move to 3 with fully open data.

>> From the informations you have given us :
>> 1/ I need you explain to us how your data respects the charter for each point: https://transiscope.org/charter/

1. TRANSISCOPE aggregates citizen alternatives. These are initiatives
created by individuals or groups of individuals who take their
decisions independently of any input from governments, political
parties or religious bodies.

Yes we are a NGO that supports a social movement.

2. These alternatives constitute tangible responses to a systemic
crisis at any level, from local to global. A non-exhaustive list might
include the climate emergency, social and humanitarian crises and the
crisis of the capitalist economic model; these challenges are
considered to be interconnected.

Transition is a movement of communities coming together to reimagine
and rebuild our world.
https://transitionnetwork.org/about-the-movement/what-is-transition/

3. They seek to develop one or several commons. They must show through
their governance, economic model, working structures and investment
choices that they are focused on the common good and not the
advancement of any individual interest.

We operate on a shared governance model:
https://transitionnetwork.org/about-the-movement/how-we-work/shared-governance/

4. TRANSISCOPE is unequivocal in rejecting practices that are violent,
discriminatory, anti-democratic, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic or
racist.

See here: https://transitionnetwork.org/do-transition/inner-transition/themes-and-resources/difference-diversity-power-inclusion/

5. Lastly, we promote alternatives that are committed to a process
that is open and participative, sharing their know-how, social skills,
knowledge and practices.

We certainly aspire to! Eg
https://transitionnetwork.org/do-transition/starting-transition/

Yes, happy to discuss on the call

Hello Sam and Mark,

First Transistion Netwok integration is done :

Next step is to clean Description (unicode) and set the good categories.

Hi Guys,

I've just made an amendment to our API endpoint so that only 20 records are served by default.

Please could you update the URL to query all our initiative data to be https://transitioninitiative.org/wp-json/cds/v1/initiatives?per_page=1500

The data is also now under a 'body' property to separate it from the new pagination properties (count, total, per_page, page_number, total_pages) which can also now be found at that endpoint.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best wishes,
Mark

Hi I submitted a form on https://transiscope.org/contact-2/ a few
weeks ago, I'm just following up. Apologies if you're no longer
involved in Transiscope, please let me know and I won't email again.

I noticed that the pins on
https://transiscope.org/carte-des-alternatives/ no longer link back to
https://transitiongroups.org/ as the canonical source of data.

There's therefore no way of connecting with the Transition groups from
Transiscope. Is it possible to fix it for us please? So each pin links
back to the appropriate page? It is a requirement of the
https://transitiongroups.org/licence/ to at least link back to our
site, it would obviously be preferable if they went directly to the
appropriate group eg
https://transitiongroups.org/group/transition-durham/

Do let me know what's possible

Thanks

Sam

Hello Simon,

I've just been asked by someone how to set up a map.. Would you consider your WordPress aggregator 'production' at this point?

In terms of other 'Transition' data one of the big ones is all the French/Belgian data here: https://assemblee-virtuelle.github.io/transiscope-en/#/carte/@45.98,7.87,5z?cat=all

I have mentioned you to Transiscope a couple of times, but get the impression they are a bit stretched. I've cc'd Maia who was the last contact I had at Transiscope. She may be able to say more about their capacity/ API access.

Thanks

Hi Sam / Daniel,

I love the look of the map you have built - it seems like a really useful set of data.
It would be great to see if we can make it interoperable with all the Transition Towns and ERA and KVM data we now have registered with the Murmurations Index and displaying on the demo Murmurations map.

Do you have an API for the data, or know how we might be able to access the dataset so we could register it with the Murmurations Index and make it available to more people?

All the best

Aggregators can identify 'more authoritative' profiles (than the ones in a csv import) when a Node creates their own profile and hosts it at their own URL... so this provides a route for initially centralised data sets to become decentralised.

I just used the batch importer to register all the ERA data with the Index…

It would be great to explore how we can collaborate to make Transiscope interoperable with Murmurations…

Would you be the right people to talk to about that?

We like the look of what you are building but unless I am mistaken it takes a centralised approach and will hence go out of date as soon as any of the projects move… Murmurations is our attempt to solve that problem.

I'm a membre of a non profit called virtual assembly http://www.virtual-assembly.org/ which has - kind of - a similar purpose, develop sustainable/open source/ethic digital tools in order to build networks and ease projects to be linked and share data (ease cooperation) - our main R&D project is here https://github.com/assemblee-virtuelle/semapps

We have already developped this concept https://transiscope.org/alternatives-web-portal/ - The translation is a bit rough but happy to answer the questions you may have.

I belive we have a lot in commons, happy to talk about it.

Wow, lots of very cool projects going on there!
Are any of you involved with the Transiscope mapping project?

Hi Simon,

Thanks for getting back to me.
We would love to explore how we may be able to interact with the data you have collected and to investigate whether we could make it available to more mappers by making it interoperable with Murmurations. Would that be something you would be happy to explore? I will be away on holiday for the next 2 weeks but will still be on email occasionally - and, if it would help, perhaps we could set up a meeting for when I’m back, after April 1st?

If you would like to learn more about https://murmurations.network/ there is lots of info in the Docs https://docs.murmurations.network/ and you can play with tools in the test environment here: https://test-tools.murmurations.network/

If you have any questions please let me know….

One of my first questions to you would be: is there an API or json endpoint for your data anywhere?

I hope this is of interest and we can collaborate to help build the commons :)

All the best

Oliver

Hello Olivier,

Transiscope provides an API: https://transiscope.gogocarto.fr/api

We have an unresolved licensing issue. All sources do not have the same license even though they are all announced in Odbl. These data are therefore not publicly publishable.

Is this the information you were looking for?

aha - sorry, please ignore my previous email - as I now see you have answered me here Simon :)

Thank you!

I will work with our devs to see if / how we can use your API

Is the licensing issue a problem... Presumably if the info is on your map and other maps it is already in the public domain and therefore OK to republish elsewhere…? we also have a ’source’ field (with date-time for last access) in Murmurations so there would be references to where the data came from…

Very happy to be in touch about this :)

Thanks

Oli
